IEPN INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
1. Fellow – This is the highest professional category, recognizing an individual with advanced expertise in one or more areas of sustainability. It reflects proven leadership, active mentorship, and a strong commitment to advancing sustainability.
Eligibility criteria include:
At least 10 years of active membership
Significant contributions to environmental practice and management.
2. Member – This category covers practitioners who have not yet attained Fellow status, as well as graduates of tertiary institutions with at least five years of post-qualification experience in practice. A Member demonstrates strong knowledge of sustainability issues and, more importantly, professional experience in evaluating, recommending, and/or implementing practical solutions to today’s sustainability challenges.
Eligibility criteria include:
A minimum of six years as an Associate, or demonstration of equivalent professional experience
Recognition by the Council as possessing adequate knowledge of environmental practice and management
3. Associate – This category is for individuals at the entry level or in the early stages of their careers who have not yet attained Full Membership status. Associates may participate in the Institute’s activities but do not enjoy all the rights and privileges of full members. The category includes students, technicians, and affiliates.
Eligibility criteria include:

Holder of a tertiary qualification (University Degree or Higher National Diploma, or equivalent), or at least four years of experience in an affiliate category

Holder of a tertiary qualification in environmental science or a related discipline, or a person who has continuously performed senior-level duties in environmental practice and management for at least six (6) years

A graduate of the Institute who has competently carried out executive or advisory duties at a senior level in environmental practice and management for at least four (4) years after election to this category

A non-graduate who has spent at least ten (10) years in an affiliate grade and is recognized as having the knowledge and qualities essential for effective environmental practice and management
4. Honorary Fellow – This membership category is reserved for individuals who, in the opinion of the Council, have made outstanding contributions to the development of the environmental sector in any capacity.
STEPS TO MEMBERSHIP AND LICENSURE
Step One
All intending members and licensees are required to create an account on the IEPN portal.
Step Two
Read Eligibility Criteria and Choose the Appropriate Membership Category and Practice Areas.
Step Three
All intending members should complete and submit (upload) the form together with all supporting documents and information as indicated in the application form.
Step Four
The non-refundable membership application fee is N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira only). This fee should be paid online and evidence uploaded together with the application form and supporting documents.
Step Five
All applicants will be required to take IEPN proficiency tests and achieve a pass mark of no less than 70%. Applicants are allowed a maximum of two attempts in one year.
Step Six
IEPN Council reviews recommendations made by the admission and registration committee, together with documents submitted by applicants, and proficiency test scores. If satisfactory, Council approves membership and licensure for specific membership categories and practice areas.
Step Seven
Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance and provided guidance on the next steps.
Step Eight
The final step before induction and license issuance is payment of the membership fee of N330,000 (Three hundred and thirty thousand Naira). Payment is made online and evidence uploaded.
Step Nine
Successful applicants who have fulfilled all required financial obligations will be onboarded and issued licenses and their practitioners’ seals at an induction ceremony or other process 3 as authorized by IEPN Council. All licensed practitioners are also required to sign attestation to the guidelines for the use of the seal.
